The Xiaopoxian Knowledge Network is a planned group of 34 Chinese and English knowledge sites covering insurance, savings, high-net-worth (HNW) wealth, bank accounts and fund structures in Singapore and Hong Kong. xiaopoxian.com is its entry point and map. It does not explain how a particular policy works; it tells you which site and which page to read first, in what order, and where to verify what you read. The main edition is in Chinese; this English page summarises it, and an English FAQ answers the most common questions about using the network.

What a knowledge map is, and what it is not

A knowledge map answers three questions: who you are, what you need to decide, and which pages you should read before deciding. Each reading path on this site follows the same pattern: start with a page that settles a prerequisite (for example, whether CPF applies to you), move to the mechanism and cost pages, and finish with the pages that tell you which officials or professionals must confirm the answer.

The map deliberately stops short of detail. Mechanisms are described in one to three sentences, only enough to decide whether to read further, and the depth sits on the sister site responsible for that topic. The map also does not compare returns, list products or rank insurers or banks. A reading path describes what readers in a given situation usually need to understand; it is not a recommendation to buy, open or set up anything.

The planned 34 sites in six clusters

The network is organised so that each site owns one problem area. Counts below follow the network plan as at October 2026; most sites are still being built, and two (iul.sg and xiaopoxian.sg) are live.

Cluster Sites Examples Questions it answers
Life & protection 7 term.com.sg, wholelife.com.sg, iul.sg, vul.sg, insurancesg.si How term, whole life, IUL and VUL work; sum assured; underwriting
Savings & investment-linked 4 saving.sg, saving.com.sg, savings.sg, ilp.com.sg Endowments, annuities, ILP charges, where savings insurance fits beside deposits and T-bills
HNW & private banking 11 (including the English HNW-solutions site, not yet open) hnw.sg, hnwi.sg, ppli.com.sg, vccfund.sg, sgvcc.com, vccsg.com Asset allocation, residency, PPLI, VCCs, family offices, trusts
Banking & landing 2 bankaccount.sg, bankaccount.com.sg Account routes, documents, source of funds, CRS self-certification
Hong Kong × Singapore 6 insurancehk.si, bankaccount.hk (on hold), vul.hk, term.hk, wholelife.hk, privatebanking.hk Hong Kong itself, and side-by-side comparisons of the two hubs
Brand & encyclopaedia 4 xiaopoxian.sg, xiaopoxian.com.sg, xiaopoxian.si, xiaopoxian.com Team and services; Singapore insurance primer; Q&A bank; this map

Nine sites are English-first, written for expatriate families, international advisers and fund managers; the rest are Chinese-first. Every site carries a summary in the other language. Within the brand cluster, the division is simple: xiaopoxian.com.sg explains the rules of Singapore insurance, xiaopoxian.si gives short answers to about 200 specific questions, and xiaopoxian.com tells you in which order to read them.

Five audiences, five entry points

Audience First question to settle Where the path starts
New residents and expatriate families Do CPF, MediShield Life and DPS apply to me? insurancesg.si/cpf-and-medishield-life, then insurancesg.si/group-vs-personal-cover
Cross-border families In which jurisdictions am I tax resident, and which rules overlap? hnw.sg/residency-tax-residence, then xiaopoxian.com.sg/hk-vs-sg
Business owners Is personal and family protection in place before company-level planning? term.com.sg/sum-assured, then term.com.sg/keyman
HNW families and family offices How do jumbo life, financing, PPLI, VCCs, private banks and trusts depend on each other? hnw.sg/asset-allocation, then vccfund.sg/tax-incentives
Professional advisers How do I verify institutions and representatives and review policy documents? MAS directories, then vul.com.sg/due-diligence-checklist

Readers whose situation crosses categories, for example a business owner who is also a cross-border parent, should start with the path that settles residency and tax first.

Six topic maps

Two topic maps on the main site group the network by subject rather than by reader. The first covers protection life insurance, savings and investment-linked policies, and jumbo life with premium financing. The second covers PPLI and VCCs, private banking and bank accounts, and Hong Kong versus Singapore. For each topic the map lists the core questions, the consumer-protection rules that apply, the main risks and the site responsible.

The topic maps also separate sites that look similar. For VCCs, for instance, vccfund.sg is the Chinese legal and tax reference, vccfund.com.sg covers regulation and incorporation in English, vccfund.si compares the VCC with Cayman, Luxembourg, Irish and Hong Kong vehicles, sgvcc.com walks through the single-family-office route in Chinese, and vccsg.com is written for fund managers.

The seven-layer reading order

The most common mistake is not misunderstanding one page but reading in the wrong order: reviewing illustrated returns before confirming tax residence, or discussing financing before understanding surrender values. The network uses one order throughout.

Layer Question it settles Typical pages Cost of skipping it
1. Residency and jurisdiction Which countries' rules and reporting apply hnwi.sg/tax-residence, hnw.sg/crs Later planning built on the wrong tax assumptions
2. National schemes What CPF, MediShield Life and DPS already cover xiaopoxian.com.sg/national-schemes Duplicated or missing cover
3. Protection Death, disability, critical illness and medical gaps term.com.sg/sum-assured Savings bought before core risks are covered
4. Savings and investment Liquidity, guarantees, charges saving.sg/surrender-liquidity, ilp.com.sg/charges Early surrender losses
5. Structures and succession Nominations, trusts, VCCs, PPLI xiaopoxian.com.sg/nomination-and-beneficiaries Proceeds paid in ways the family did not intend
6. Financing and leverage Loan terms, collateral calls, interest-rate risk iul.sg/premium-financing Leverage added to a structure not yet understood
7. Onboarding and compliance KYC, source of funds, annual obligations bankaccount.com.sg/source-of-funds-wealth Delays or rejections at account opening

Network-wide key figures

The network keeps one version of each shared figure, dated and attributed. Rule figures change only when the institution revises them; market statistics are replaced when a new edition is published.

Figure Value Source and date
Minimum cooling-off period for most Singapore policies (excluding travel, motor and maid insurance) 14 days from receipt of the policy document MoneySense, updated 2026-05-11
PPF cap for individual life policies, per life assured per insurer S$500,000 guaranteed sum assured; S$100,000 guaranteed surrender value SDIC, as at 2026-10
FIDReC adjudication limit S$150,000 per claim for disputes filed from 1 July 2024; filing and mediation are free, adjudication carries a S$50 case fee for individuals FIDReC Terms of Reference v2.2 (1 July 2025)
Singapore life industry weighted new business premium, 1H 2026 S$3.63 billion, up 21.4% year on year LIA, 2026-08-12
Singapore assets under management, end-2025 S$6.7 trillion, growth of about 10% MAS Asset Management Survey 2025
Hong Kong asset and wealth management business, end-2025 HK$42.2 trillion under management, up 20% SFC Asset and Wealth Management Activities Survey 2025 (July 2026)

Market figures describe the background only; they are not an argument for buying anything. Hong Kong participating-policy illustrations, Singapore illustration-rate caps and similar product rules are explained on the relevant sister sites, and illustrated rates never represent actual returns.

Sources, verification and updates

Sources are graded in four levels: official primary sources (MAS, MoneySense, IRAS, CPF Board, MOH, the Hong Kong Insurance Authority and SFC), industry guidance (such as LIA), secondary reports, and items still to be verified. Unverified items never appear as specific figures. Rules that have been announced but are not yet in force, such as the amended CRS from 1 January 2027, are labelled as announced and written in the future tense.

Readers should verify institutions and individuals themselves. In Singapore, the MAS Financial Institutions Directory lists regulated institutions and their permitted activities, and the Financial Institution Representatives Register lists individuals who conduct regulated activities. The Investor Alert List is not exhaustive, so absence from it proves nothing. In Hong Kong, the Insurance Authority keeps a register of licensed insurance intermediaries. Corrections are recorded in the changelog on the main site, with the date and the sister sites affected.

What the network does not do

The network is operated by the Xiaopoxian content team as general education and reference material. It is not an insurer, bank, licensed financial adviser or insurance broker, and its content has not been reviewed or approved by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. It does not recommend products, does not promise returns, loan approvals, residency outcomes or tax results, and does not use internal commission tables or client data. Personalised advice is given by licensed or exempt institutions and their appointed representatives; legal effects of wills, trusts and nominations need a lawyer; cross-border tax and CRS questions need professional advice in each relevant jurisdiction. If you would like your own situation interpreted, you can register an enquiry through the contact details on this site.
